Next Step, The

At The Next Step Domestic Violence Project (Next Step), we have been working to end domestic abuse in our community since 1993.  We staff resource centers and outreach sites in Washington and Hancock Counties.  We provide 24-hour hotline, crisis counseling, safety planning, appropriate resource referrals, advocacy with other systems, court accompaniment, support and education groups, civil legal assistance, safe homes, transitional housing, and emergency shelter. Curious about what we do? Come to one of our regularly scheduled orientations to learn about Next Step and the many ways you can join us in our efforts to help individuals and families impacted by domestic violence and to end the epidemic of abuse through education and social change.   Orientations happen every other month and are a great way to learn about Next Step. We will share information about current volunteer opportunities and annual events. And we want to hear about your expertise and experience, and how you might want to help. We encourage creativity and welcome new ideas.   Our scheduled orientations are as follows:   ·         January 11, 2016, at the Ellsworth Resource Center from 5:30 pm-6:00 pm   ·         March 14, 2016, at the Machias Resource Center from 5:30 pm-6:00 pm   ·         May 9, 2016, at the Ellsworth Resource Center from 5:30-6:00pm   ·         July 11, 2016 at the Machias Resource Center from 5:30-6:00pm   ·         September 12, 2016 at the Ellsworth Resource Center from 5:30-6:00pm   ·         November 14, 2016 at the Machias Resource Center from 5:30-6:00pm     Next Step offers great trainings and regular supervision for volunteers and interns.
